Thanks, Sonam! Oh my, 8000 "friends"!?! I could hardly handle a couple hundred :-) My hope in wriitng the post was to tell my job seeker clients that it is OK to have a small network when it comes to Facebook. People seem to go to one extreme (i.e., 8000 friends..lol!) or another (i.e., refuse to even add it to their job search arsenal) and end up missing the possibilities that Facebook could offer. In my opinion, social media is most effective when you can build not just a network, but an engaged network (and typically that happens with smaller groups or "communities"). Then it actually means something and is more effective (aka it's worth a hug!).

Thanks again!

I so agree with you on this 'hugging' issue. I don't have a problem hugging someone close to me yet having someone I barely know touch me is outrageous.
I never saw the 'hugging' syndrome with Facebook but I did ask myself: "Out of these thousands of FB friends, who will really be here for me or who adds value to my life." I had to create a new account and re-add those who did add value. I dumped +-8000 friends and ended up with 90 very hugable people!

Love the post!
